Completed Project: Freedom Farm - 44 Acres - 2004 During the last
two years, Friends of the Fields effectively doubled the acreage
of farmland placed under agricultural conservation
easements—from 74 acres in the organization’s first six years,
to 151 acres now. Freedom Farm - 44 Acres - 2004 In 2004, two Friends of the Fields board members, Bob Caldwell and Karen Pritchard, were successful in their grant application to the Federal Farm and Ranchland Protection Program, bringing $250,000 to the county. Friends of the Fields was instrumental in community education efforts that persuaded Clallam County Commissioners to match that federal grant with nearly $350,000 in county funds. The combined funds were used to purchase conservation easements on 44 acres of the Jerry and Mary Schmidt farm, now known as Freedom Farm. The Schmidts raise hay and graze their cattle on the property Please join us to preserve Finn Hall Farm. Make a contribution to Friends of the Fields today. 151 total acres of productive farmland protected in perpetuity! |
